Tomo-Digi will contribute to the improvement and progress of society by developing and disseminating digital broadcasting-centered cross-media services through broadcasting and telecommunications.
Television services provided by broadcasting have played an important role in society and are therefore of significant value to society. Unfortunately, consumers and even broadcasters themselves are gradually losing sight of the importance of television services due to the rise of TV-like services on the net and the rapidly emerging changes in markets served by the TV industry. In spite of this, the role these services play and the value they provide still remains.
To invigorate the industry, what is needed is a metamorphosis of the TV, in both TV services provided and TV-device design as they apply to business, commerce, and technology. At Tomo-Digi, we call it 'The Next Generation TV.'
The divergence of DTV and IPTV standards among countries and regions is a major obstacle to success. For Japanese broadcasters, the last decade was a period of convergence, but internationally it has been one of divergence. What is required is a balance between diverging and converging standards. Now is the time to begin merging TV standards internationally. In other words, we need a lingua franca for the TV industry; a vision of One TV.
